'To partake' is often used to mean 'to eat', or 'to have some of the food', e.g. "I partook of an egg this morning." This is "to take the word beyond its proper limits" (Fowler, 1996). Properly it means 'to participate in', or 'to have a share in'. It is a formal way of saying it, and you are advised not to use it: it often seems too formal.
