Although a playwright does write plays, she or he takes the name of the job from the separate English noun, 'a wright', which means 'maker'. It is always an error to spell the word playwrite. You may care to look at Right - write and Wright - rite for more.

There is no portmanteau verb 'to playwrite' either.
