A ream is a measure of quantity of paper. The standard modern ream contains 500 sheets - the quantity in which packets of e.g. printer paper are usually sold. This is equivalent to 20 quires.
- Through history, a quire has varied between 4 and 25 sheets. French and Italian paper-makers sold 25 sheets in a quire; English and Dutch only sold 24 sheets, but all sold 20 quires to a ream.
