Be careful with these. Both spellings exist in English; the sounds of the words in English are indistinguishable, except with careful speakers.

The American university is Stanford; the British town (in Lincolnshire) is Stamford; the battle (and village) in Yorkshire is Stamford Bridge. (The several other places round the world vary in spelling. It is up to you to check.)
